We specialize in cultivating your capabilities as a leader. Leadership is about finding meaning in your work. It is about navigating at many different altitudes with finesse, energizing and inspiring those around you to achieve. The Berkeley Executive Leadership program will dramatically change the way I do my day to day work. It was exceptional! Our unique one week program begins with a baseline analysis of your organization's culture and your personal leadership style (with prior input from you and your colleagues). Through peer and professional coaching, we help you determine what you wish to change to improve the performance of your organization.

Throughout the week, you will work with accomplished peers, top UC Berkeley faculty, and industry thought leaders to create a personalized plan to unlock innovation and growth, create energy and urgency, and drive results. In addition, the program includes one-on-one sessions and feedback from our Executive Coaching Team.

You will return to your office with a practical, vetted plan you can put to use immediately.

Sessions

Day 1: Facing the Facts about You and Your Organization

Measuring your personal leadership style, and the culture of your organization

Using two assessment tools—one for your personal leadership style, and another for your organizational culture, we will give you measurable, actionable insights into where you are today. The first assessment will focus on your dominant leadership styles—as reported by you, and as perceived by others. In a personal coaching session, an experienced executive coach will provide feedback on how to interpret and act upon your specific results. The second assessment will focus on the shared beliefs and behaviors of your organization—again, as reported by you and as perceived by others. We will examine the gaps between where your organization stands, and where you want to take it—and develop a plan to get where you want to go.

Day 2: Creating an Innovation and Growth Engine in Your Company

Developing your organizational culture and structure to foster innovation and growth

The business press is filled with stories of flash-in-the-pan innovation. But how do you, as a leader, assemble the tools, resources, and culture to create a repeatable pipeline of innovation for the long haul? Where everyone is on the prowl for the next thing that will make your company better? And how do you select and implement the best ideas so that you can reach your growth targets year after year? Drawing upon the latest research in what works, we will provide a framework for you to assess the strengths and weaknesses of your current innovation value chain. What do you do well? And what can you do better? At the close of this session, you will be armed with tangible tools you can employ immediately, to create growth and enduring value.

Day 3: Motivating and Energizing Your Organization

Sustaining energy, striving for excellence, and owning results at every level

Continuing from the prior discussion on building the foundation for growth in your organization, we will turn to the most common struggle executives face: keeping their people motivated and energized. Combining our faculty's extensive consulting experience with their cutting edge research, we will present a tested toolkit for creating and maintaining a high-performance culture, including recruiting, selecting, training, socializing, coaching, and recognizing employees who will drive top performance. Employing case studies and exercises, we will review the latest on how to frame risks and opportunities in a positive manner that mobilizes your teams; how to influence and persuade your stakeholders; how to create urgency and ownership; and, how to develop high potential talent.

Day 4: The Balancing Act: Your Current Business and Your Future Conquests

Case studies from the front lines of leadership, strategy, and innovation

In this session, we will build on the tools and practices of the prior three days, and focus on industry practitioners who have put them to work in their organizations. What worked for them? What didn't work? And why? Through short case studies, you will work through a series of leadership challenges with current practitioners. How do you maintain success and momentum in current lines of business, while filling the pipeline with the products and services that will fuel tomorrow's growth? How do you balance discipline and urgency with flexibility? At the end of this session, you will have a clearer vision not only of best practice, but also what makes sense to implement at your organization.

Day 5: Communication, Influence, and Persuasion

Employing best practices for working with people to get things done

At high levels of power and influence, a leader must effectively reach and inspire people at all levels of the organization. Doing this well does not mean trying to change who you are, but it does require focused effort. Using a series of experiential exercises developed with generals in the US military, we will explore the nuances of interpersonal rapport, interpersonal status behaviors, and best practices for effective exercise of influence and persuasion across multiple levels of the organization. At the end of an intensive week, you will emerge with many plans –the next task will be to bring everyone along with you in your pursuit of excellence. The final day of our Executive Leadership program will be devoted to preparing you.

Earl F. Cheit Award for Excellence in Teaching

Jennifer A. Chatman is the Cortese Distinguished Professor of Management at the Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley. She was the Marvin Bower Fellow at the Harvard Business School in 2001-02, and on the faculty of the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern from 1987-1993. She received her Ph.D. from UC Berkeley. Professor Chatman's research and consulting focus on the business advantages of leveraging organizational culture and leading strategic change, and she has worked with a variety of companies.

She teaches a variety of executive management and MBA courses focusing on leveraging high performance cultures, leading change, and making effective decisions. She teaches in executive education programs at Haas, Stanford University, Northwestern University's Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Duke Corporate Education, The Medical Group Management Association, and the Institute for Management Studies.

Professor Chatman's research has been highlighted in Business Week, Business 2.0, the Financial Times, Fortune, Inc., the Jungle, the New York Times, the San Francisco Chronicle, the Los Angeles Times, the Wall Street Journal, and Working Mother. She has had numerous speaking engagements and radio and television appearances and was a keynote speaker for the Economist Innovation Summit. She has written articles that have appeared in various academic journals, such as Administrative Science Quarterly, Journal of Applied Psychology, and California Management Review. Professor Chatman has won numerous awards for her teaching and research.

Cameron Anderson is an Associate Professor of Organizational Behavior at the Walter A. Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley. He earned a doctorate in Psychology from the University of California, Berkeley in 2001, and has been on the Berkeley faculty since 2005. Prior to coming to Haas, Professor Anderson taught at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and at the Stern School of Business at New York University. He won Professor of the Year at the Stern School and the Earl F. Cheit Outstanding Teaching Award for the Full-Time M.B.A. Program at the Haas School. He has consulted for many organizations and currently teaches two courses in the Haas full-time program, Power and Politics, and Negotiations and Conflict Resolution. Professor Anderson is an expert on topics pertaining to power, status, and influence processes, leadership, negotiations and conflict resolution, and team dynamics. He has published in journals such as the Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Applied Psychology, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Psychological Review, Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, Current Directions in Psychological Science, European Journal of Social Psychology, and Group Dynamics: Theory, Research, and Practice, as well as published numerous book chapters and co-edited one book.

Cort Worthington

Bio:

Cort Worthington is a leadership consultant and lecturer at the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley. He teaches several leadership courses for undergraduate, graduate, and executive education students.

In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Worthington consults to many leading companies and organizations, including Exxon Mobil, Oracle, the U.S. Army, Kaiser Permanente, McKesson, Stanford University, and Sun Microsystems. Worthington is also co-founder of the toy company, Primordial, LLC, where he raised capital and served as the director of operations.

Prior to joining the faculty at Haas, Worthington worked as a film producer, directing documentary crews around the world. He also spent fourteen seasons leading elite teams as a forest fire fighter and parachuting U.S. Forest Smokejumper.

Worthington holds an M.A. in Communication from Stanford University, an MBA from Columbia University Business School (finance, marketing) and an MBA from U.C. Berkeley (leadership).

David Viotti

David Viotti is an entrepreneur and philanthropist with over twenty years experience working with public, private and nonprofit organizations in the U.S. and abroad. He invests in a variety of ventures and provides consulting to a range of starts-ups and established companies, primarily focused on innovation.

Career highlights include Executive Director of The Westly Foundation, Founder and CEO of STAND, Co-founder of Fuse Corps, CEO of the Junior Statesmen Foundation, and Chief Learning Officer (USA) of Sun Microsystems. While at Sun, Dave also served in various senior management positions in business development, mergers and acquisitions, and sales. Prior to that, Dave worked for many years as a corporate attorney representing public and private companies. He served as Henry Luce Scholar to the Legislative Council in Hong Kong, worked with the U.N. in Malaysia, and was an assistant producer for CNN's Burden of Proof.

Dave holds both undergraduate and law degrees from Georgetown University and a masters degree in international relations from Oxford University where he was an Allbritton Scholar. He lives in the Bay Area with his wife, Brooke, and their two children. In his spare time, Dave also performs with a Palo Alto based improv comedy troupe.

Homa Bahrami

Dr. Homa Bahrami is a senior lecturer at the Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley, specializing in organizational design for global knowledge-based companies. She is the faculty director of the New Manager Boot Camp course in the Center for Executive Education at the Haas School. Bahrami is also an advisor to senior executive teams on re-organizations and related challenges.

Along with Harold Leavitt, Bahrami co-authored the leading textbook in organizational behavior, entitled, Managerial Psychology: Managing Behavior in Organizations, which was published by the University of Chicago Press, and has been translated into many languages. More recently, Bahrami authored the book, Super-Flexibility for Knowledge Enterprises, which provides practical advice for architecting super-flexible organizations.
Bahrami is an active executive coach and serves on several advisory boards in Silicon Valley and Europe.

Inder Sidhu is Senior Vice President of Strategy and Planning for Worldwide Operations at Cisco. Laura Kray is Professor at the Walter A. Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley. She holds a doctorate in Psychology from the University of Washington and has been on the Berkeley faculty since 2002. Kray has published over 30 articles in leading journals on topics pertaining to gender and negotiations, and how counterfactual thinking (reflections on the past of "what might have been") influence creativity, analytical problem solving, learning from experience, and the creation of meaning in personal narratives.

Professor Kray is the recipient of multiple National Science Foundation grants and has won several Best Paper awards from the Academy of Management and the International Association of Conflict Management. She currently serves on the editorial board of Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes and Social Psychological and Personality Science.

Morten Hansen

Morten Hansen is a Professor in the School of Information, University of California, at Berkeley. Prior to joining the I School, Morten T. Hansen was professor at Harvard Business School and at INSEAD, France, where he retains a part-time role. He holds a Ph.D. in Business Administration from the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University. His research has focused on collaboration.

His new book, Collaboration: How Leaders Avoid the Traps, Create Unity, and Reap Big Result, is published by Harvard Business Press. His award-winning research has been published in Administrative Science Quarterly, Strategic Management Journal, Academy of Management Journal, Harvard Business Review, Sloan Management Review, among others. He speaks and consults for large companies throughout the world.

William Cronk

Bio:

William F. "Rick" Cronk is the retired President of Dreyer's Grand Ice Cream, Inc., the nation's largest manufacturer and distributor of premium and superpremium ice cream brands.

Cronk and his partner, Gary Rogers, purchased Dreyer's in 1977, which at that time was generating annual sales of $6 million in the San Francisco Bay Area. Over the next twenty years, Dreyer's expanded its distribution throughout the United States, with annual revenues exceeding $2 billion.

Active with many civic and business organizations, Mr. Cronk dedicates much of his free time to the Boy Scouts of America. He completed his term as the National President (2006-08) and continues serving on the Boy Scouts' National Executive Board. In 2011, he finished his Chairmanship of the World Scout Committee, the executive body responsible for a 38 million member Scout movement in 170 countries. He is also past Chairman of the World Scout Foundation (2005-07) and will continue serving on the WSF Board.

Mr. Cronk received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the Haas Business School at the University of California at Berkeley in 1965, and he participated in the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School in 1983. Since 1986, he has been a member of the Haas Business School Advisory Board, serving two terms as chairman; and is also a member of the John Muir Health Board.

Honors and awards include the Bay Area Council, Business Hall of Fame Award (2005); the East Bay Leadership Foundation, Citizen of the Year Award (2002); the Junior Achievement of the Bay Area, Inc., Spirit of Achievement Award (1994); and the University of California, Haas School of Business Alumnus of the Year (1993).

The father of three sons, Mr. Cronk lives with his wife Janet in Lafayette, California.
