Leader as Coach
Leaders succeed when they can foster employee commitment towards achieving their business goals. Employee commitment is the key to superior performance. Leader as Coach is an intensive training workshop that prepares leaders to engage dynamic coaching strategies for building commitment and sustaining and fostering growth in their people. Participants will learn new ways of motivating and inspiring teams as well as providing one-on-one coaching to both emerging and current leaders within their organizations.
The Power of Dialogue
The primary focus of Leader as Coach is to build the skill set necessary for a leader to become an effective coach. Coaching is a one-on-one conversation between leaders and peers or direct reports that utilizes the following skills:
- Setting the Stage: Preparing the physical environment and clarifying the intention of the coaching session.
- Tracking: Building awareness of behavior, thought processes, and actions.
- Inquiry: Asking open-ended, curious questions.
- Naming It: Bringing to light those things that are unspoken but are obstacles to moving forward.
- Playback: Listening with the intent of playing back what the speaker said. This promotes reflective listening, empathetic listening, and listening for possibility.
- Effective Feedback: Offering specific, focused, balanced feedback to overcome obstacles and foster a change in behavior.
- Serving as a Sounding Board: Bringing forth full presence and practicing unconditional positive regard.
At the end of the program, participants will be awarded a certificate of completion by the UC Berkeley Center for Executive Education.
