Ernesto Dal Bo is the Phillips Girgich Professor of Business and the Chair of the Business and Public Policy Academic Group at the Haas School of Business. He previously held the Harold Furst Chair in Management Philosophy and Values. As a political economist, Ernesto is interested in governance broadly understood. He is the director of the Berkeley Center for Political Economy, which supports methodologically sound research on the connections between economics and politics. Ernesto’s research focuses on phenomena that affect governance, like political influence, social conflict, corruption, morality and social norms, state formation and the development of state capabilities, and the qualities and behavior of politicians and public servants. Ernesto teaches the MBA core course in Ethics, and he also instructs doctoral students on political institutions, public policy, and the history of government.
