A few months ago, I got a call from an executive at a large architectural firm. He said a speech coach had made him feel like he needed a "personality transplant."
He said the coach was fixated on correcting not only his mannerisms, but his temperament — his shyness, hand gestures, facial expressions, vocal inflections — and had little to say about the content or structure of the presentation he was working on.
