Merrick is currently the Postdoctoral Scholar of Racial Equity at the Haas School of Business at the University of California Berkeley. He earned his PhD in 2022 from the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California. Merrick's research focuses primarily on confronting prejudice in organizations. More specifically, he is interested in what types of confrontations benefit disadvantaged group members (rather than just reduce prejudice). His most recent stream of work looks specifically at how certain dynamics around these confrontations impact disadvantaged group members.
