Ted Robertson is the Executive Director of the Center for Healthcare Marketplace Innovation at UC Berkeley, where he leads research and commercialization efforts focused on the effective and trustworthy application of AI in healthcare. A leader in behavioral science, AI, and healthcare innovation, he has spent over 15 years driving transformative initiatives at the intersection of data science, product design, and patient-provider engagement.
Previously, Ted helped found the Coalition for Health AI (CHAI), a national industry standards organization dedicated to ensuring effective and responsible AI deployment in healthcare. He has been at the forefront of designing systems that find the right balance of machine and human decision-making, integrating behavioral science with cutting-edge machine learning and Generative AI to improve clinical and operational outcomes.
Ted is also the founder of Knit Health, a new generative AI company developing foundational models for clinical intelligence. Knit Health aims to streamline critical healthcare processes such as prior authorization, claims adjudication, quality measurement, and care coordination while enabling secure, seamless data sharing across the healthcare ecosystem.
Prior to Berkeley, he was Managing Director at ideas42, the design firm that started the first White House behavioral design team, where he led large-scale behavioral science and machine learning initiatives with major health insurers, providers, and government agencies. His work has contributed to significant improvements in patient adherence, clinical decision-making, and healthcare equity.
Ted holds a Master in Public Administration from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government. He continues to advise policymakers, healthcare leaders, and AI developers on the future of AI-driven healthcare.
